Honey Locust |
The Honey Locust can reach 30 metres in height. It is found only exceptionally in the Fontainebleau Forest. In its original growing range, it is sometimes cultivated as a wind fence. It is well known for its alarming thorns that grow from the trunk to the boughs, hence turning into formidable hedges. The foliage is light and elegant although its growth season is fairly short. It is nevertheless cultivated for landscaping purposes. Its melliferous character, highlighted in its name in English, is also of great value, both for its taste and for its abundance. Der Dornkronenbaum wird bis zu 30 m hoch, er ist im Wald von Fontainebleau eher die Ausnahme. In seinem ursprünglichen Verbreitungsgebiet wird er bisweilen als Windschutz angepflanzt. Er ist bekannt für seine gewaltigen Dornen am Stamm und an den Zweigen und macht das Anpflanzen von gefährlich aussehenden Hecken möglich. Er ist ein Baum mit leichten, sehr eleganten Blättern und einer recht kurzen Blütezeit und wird vor allem als Zierbaum verwendet. Der Dornkronenbaum ist auch eine Honigpflanze, die wohlschmeckenden Honig in großen Mengen liefert. Le Févier d’Amérique atteint 30 m, il est exceptionnel dans le massif de Fontainebleau. Dans son aire d’origine on le cultive parfois en brise-vent. Il est célèbre pour ses formidables épines qui vont du tronc aux rameaux, permettant la culture de haies redoutables. Arbre au feuillage léger, très élégant, avec une saison un peu courte, il est surtout cultivé comme sujet décoratif. C’est aussi une espèce mellifère de valeur pour le goût et l’abondance. |
