The Common Dogwood grows to 5 metres and is frequently encountered in the Fontainebleau Forest.
The Common and the White Dogwood are closely related species which vary mostly by the colour of their fruit. Both live shorter lives than the Cornelian Cherry and their wood is of lesser quality.
The Common Dogwood’s bark produces an acrid odour which is why it is nicknamed “Foetid Wood”.

Der Rote und der Weiße Hartriegel sind zwei sehr verwandte Arten, die sich hauptsächlich durch die Farbe ihrer Früchte unterscheiden. Alle beide sind nicht so langlebig wie die Kornelkirsche und ihr Holz ist von weit schlechterer Qualität.
Da die Rinde des Roten Hartriegels einen beißenden Geruch ausströmt, wurde er "Wanzenbaum" genannt.

Le Cornouiller sanguin et le Cornouiller blanc sont deux espèces très proches qui diffèrent principalement par la couleur des fruits. Ils sont, tous deux, moins longévifs que le Cornouiller mâle et leurs bois sont de bien moindre qualité.
