The Common Hawthorn can grow to heights of 10 meters and is quite widespread in the
Fontainebleau forest and generally in France.
Its particularly hard wood was used for making mechanical mobile and spinning parts for a variety of speciality equipment
ranging from wind and water mills to the textile industry.
The Common Hawthorn was used to fashion some of the most exquisite spinning tops set in motion by children’s whips.
Horticulturalists use it as rootstock for Medlar and Pear trees.

Gärtner benutzen ihn als Pfropfunterlagen für Mispeln und Birnbäume.
