The caterpillar nicks off the end of pine branches in such a way that sap, the size of a walnut, oozes out. The caterpillar then burrows in that sap and that is also where the pupa hibernates. The moth appears in May and June.
These sap abodes are visible at the “Champ Minette” (P 126).

Die Raupe schält die Rinde von der Spitze eines Kiefernzweigs und verursacht damit den Austritt eines etwa walnussgroßen Harztropfens. Dort lebt sie, und die Puppe überwintert darin. Der Schmetterling schlüpft im Mai und Juni.
