The adult is 8 to 9 mm long. Like the Elaphrus Riparius, it lives from spring to autumn in the muck and at the base of plants, on the edge of small pools and ponds although it seems to prefer shady spots; a common species.

Länge 8 bis 9 mm. Genau wie den gemeinen Uferläufer trifft man ihn von Frühjahr bis Herbst am freien Rand von Tümpeln und Weihern auf Schlamm und am Fuße von Pflanzen, jedoch in schattigeren Lagen an. Die Art ist verbreitet.

Long de 8 à 9 mm, on le trouve, sur la vase et au pied des plantes, au bord des mares et des étangs dégagés, du printemps à l'automne comme Elaphrus riparius, mais souvent en situation plus ombragée. L'espèce est commune.
